Purbrook is believed to have existed since the 18th century, originally a settlement built on a Roman Road from Chichester to Southampton. It is now located on the A3, formerly the main road from London to Portsmouth. The A3(M) has since been built, meaning the A3 is now mostly used by local traffic.
